Booking Through Thursday #1

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly book meme that changes every week (you can find them all here).

This week's question: What’s the worst book you’ve read recently?
(I figure it’s easier than asking your all-time worst, because, well, it’s recent!)

Don’t forget to leave a link to your actual response (so people don’t have to go searching for it) in the comments—or if you prefer, leave your answers in the comments themselves!

Fortunately, I don't read a lot of books I hate. I usually have a good hunch about the book I'm about to read, so I'm rarely disappointed. However, the second installment in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga, New Moon, left me a little cold. After setting up the stage so gloriously in Twilight, the author doesn't do anything with her characters in New Moon. Although it's far from being a bad book, it was a disappointment for me. And why include another love interest so soon after introducing the first one?

Haven't read any of the Twilight Saga books. But I must say, that's a great cover.

That is true. :) I like all the Twilight covers.

I still have the Twilight series in my TBR. I've heard so many good things about them. Eventually I will get to them.

I though the first book was a good, fun page-turner. My friend, who is a big Twilight fan, tells me that New Moon is her least favorite in the series. Hopefully, I will like the rest. :)

I've never read anything by Stephenie Meyer & I don't think I will- just not my thing I think! :-)

It just goes down hill after Twilight.

Nikola said...

Gosh Jess, I hope not, since I'm planning on reading the books! :)

THANK YOU! I was also disappointed with New Moon. My favorite in the series was actually Eclipse.

I chose The Reader by Bernhard Schlink as my most recent BAD read. You can check out my thoughts here.

I liked New Moon, but my new favorite Stephanie Meyer book is The Host!

Oh how I enjoy coming across people who also did not love all the books in this series! I was going to pick one of them for my answer to this week's question, but chose a little book called Straight Talking instead.

I actually liked the first 3 alright... the one I didn't like was Breaking Dawn. It seems like people either love or hate that one and I did not like it.

Recently the worst book I read was Ravenous by Ray Garton. OMG was it bad. A pity because I love horror books and was looking for a new author to try. Who knows maybe I'd like his others and I just picked a bad one.
Thanks for commenting on my site. You mentioned swapping books who could I do that with?

I totally agree about New Moon! It really disappointed me too.

hmm I haven't read this series yet..I hope I'm not regretting it.

Totally. I loved the first book and absolutely hated the other 3. Ugh.

If you thought the character development was weak in New Moon, be prepared: it doesn't get much better.

You're right -- this was kind of the "waiting around for stuff to happen" book.

Nikola said...

Exactly Sarbear!

Eclipse was my favorite of the books. However New Moon, even though I'm not team Jacob, was great for getting to know him. I will admit I was sad nearly all the way through it. I have a mix bag of feelings about this book.

Have you gotten to the part where Bella starts doing random craziness just to hear Edward's voice yet? If not, your eyes might bug out when you do--fair warning. LOL

I did like getting to know Jacob in New Moon, though. I believe my least favorite in the series was Breaking Dawn.

I have to agree I could not even make through the first chapter of the first book let alone the second.

I really, really loved Twilight. But even that I re-read the other day and it didn't have the same effect on me. I thought everything after that was like you said, a little disappointing.

And here I thought I would be the only "blasphemous" person not to like a Twilight book. Thanks so much for your thoughts guys!

I read the first 3 and I didn't like New Moon. I like the style of the storytelling, and gosh, I had to read New Moon before reading Eclipse (that would make sense, wouldn't it?)

I think Stephenie Meyer did make the story progress in New Moon, but probably not in the way that a lot of readers have hoped. I'd say that New Moon is a good setup for Eclipse, but that's probably it.

My copy of Breaking Dawn has been sitting on my bookshelf for about a year now. For some reason, I'm not even touching it and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I read a few spoilers (so don't read spoilers! ) =P
